The Skylight is the youth ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Downtown Orlando. The Skylight provides a healthy atmosphere for youth in 6th to 12th grade in which they can come and experience God’s love and what it means to their lives.

Youth are encouraged to attend Youth Group on Sunday evenings as a way to have fun and start understanding what God’s message is all about.

As the desire to further understand God’s love and Jesus’ message arrises deeper experiences are also available. Sunday morning Trigue offers acts of service as well as relevant discussion, various annual retreats provide poignant moments throughout the year, and the annual Epic confirmation class allows youth to formally express their faith in a very big way.

2009 - 2010 Youth Group

When a deeper desire to serve God’s people in God’s world exists youth are encouraged to participate in monthly Mission Days in the local community. Our annual summer Mission Trips provide service opportunities across the world.

If youth feel the call to take on leadership roles in the ministry, plenty of doors are open to them. Share Groups meet weekly in people’s homes to help encourage each other, the Worship Team leads praise and worship for the youth group while The Core plans Sunday night worship topics and messages. The Mission Leadership Team spends a year meeting to develop leadership and put it into practice.

Steve Schneeberger – Youth Director
Steve began his career in youth ministry over twenty years ago in Lawrence, Kansas. Before moving to Orlando in 1994, he lived and worked in Clearwater for six years. Steve lives in Orlando with his wife Carol and their three children, Hannah, Bobby, and Michael.

Justin Cox – Associate Youth Director & Webmaster
Justin grew up in FUMCO’s youth program. As a youth, he was the editor of the now extinct youth newsletter, The Skywriter. He has been maintaining the Skylight web site for a few years now. He has been working in the Youth Office since 2005 when he was a Summer Intern. Justin graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Business Administration.
